The Holy Father Benedict XVI has announced the Year of Faith, which will last from 11 October 2012 (fiftieth anniversary of the opening of the Second Vatican Council) to the Solemnity of Our Lord Jesus Christ, Universal King, on 24 November 2013. The Year of Faith is an invitation to the faithful to rediscover the treasure of their faith, to transform their lives, and to accept Jesus as their One Lord and Savior. Pope Benedict XVI appeals to us: “Today in the Church we need a more compelling engagement in the new evangelization, so as to discover anew the joy of faith and rediscover enthusiasm for spreading the faith.” “Today the term ecclesia militans—the Church Militant—is somewhat out of fashion, but in fact we can understand ever more so that it is true, that it contains within it the truth. We see how evil wishes to dominate in the world and that it is necessary to fight against evil. We see that it does so in so many ways: cruelty, through the different forms of violence, but even disguised as good and thereby undermining the moral foundations of society. St. Augustine said that all history is a struggle between two loves: love of self to the point of despising God; and love of God to the point of despising oneself, in martyrdom. We are caught up in this struggle (...). The Lord said: ‘Courage, I have conquered the world.’ We are on the Lord’s team, hence on the winning team” (5 May 2012).
In the war with the powers of evil, the weapons of Christ and His Church are Truth and Love. A constant propaganda of lies is one of the most insidious methods used by the powers of evil in their struggle for the heart and mind of man. These forces also make use of the truth, but in the service of Untruth. Ranged on a massive scale against the Catholic Church and the truth of the Gospel are the mass media throughout the world. All too often they become tools of violence, since without truth there can be no true freedom, but rather enslavement.
This is why it is so important that we should deepen our faith through daily persevering prayer, frequent reception of the sacraments of penance and the Eucharist and daily reading of the Holy Scriptures and the Catechism of the Catholic Church. We join in the work of evangelization by supporting and promoting the Catholic press, radio, and television. Love One Another Magazine carries out a special role in the evangelization of Poland and the world. We are now able to publish the magazine in sixteen languages (now, for the first time, in Mandarin Chinese and Portuguese) and distribute it to every continent. This would not be possible without the prayers and material support of our readers. For this help we express our deepest gratitude to you all. Every day we pray for your intentions by reciting the rosary and the chaplet of Divine Mercy. Once a week I celebrate Holy Mass for the same.
All my prayers and priestly blessings.
